The iPhone 4

Author: BUYandSELL   |   Posted on: September 21, 2011

In 2007, Apple launched the first iPhone, it was a hit and since, it has been growing in leaps and bounds. Currently, Apple has introduced the iPhone 4 into the market after the iPhone Original, iPhone 3G and 3GS models. As with any updated version, the iPhone 4 has more features and capabilities than the previous iPhone models. One of the most salient features of any iPhone version is its ease of use. It has a complete touch-screen user interface designed to be used with the finger and responds to the bare digit or multiple fingers.

This is a step up from other phone manufacturers who still make handsets requiring the use of a stylus. For all the models, the dimensions have remained almost the same with an 11.5 cm, scratch-resistant screen and a body made from alumina-silicate glass and stainless steel.

The iPhone 4 display has a higher resolution of 640 × 960 at 326 ppi compared to any other iPhone form. The iPhone 4 has a larger memory at 512 MB DRAM and storage space of 32 GB compared to the iPhone 3GS. With regard to its battery, the Apple's website says that the battery life "is designed to retain up to 80 percent of its original capacity after 400 full charge and discharge cycles", which translates to a really long time.

Also, Apple provides free updates to the OS for the iPhone through iTunes making it impossible for the handset to be behind the times.

The iPhone allows audio conferencing, call holding, call merging and integration with other cellular network features and iPhone functions. It can play digital video, allowing users to watch TV shows and movies in widescreen.   The iPhone includes software that allows the user to upload, view, and e-mail photos taken with the camera. It has 2 cameras, one in front and one in the rear for video-conferencing.

The iPhone allows users to purchase and download songs from the iTunes Store directly and to sort its media library by songs, artists, albums, videos, playlists, genres, composers, podcasts, audio books, and compilations, like an iPod.
Web pages may be viewed in portrait or landscape mode and supports automatic zooming by pinching together or spreading apart fingertips on the screen, or by double-tapping text or images
For text input, the iPhone implements a virtual keyboard on the touch screen. It has automatic spell checking and correction, predictive word capabilities, and a dynamic dictionary that learns new words. The keyboard can predict what word the user is typing and complete it, and correct for the accidental pressing of keys near the presumed desired key, it has support for cutting, coping, or pasting text.
The iOS 4.3, that the iPhone 4 uses to run allows it to have running applications in the background which is a feature no other iPhone model has had.

The iPhone 4 has sensors within it to allow for ease of use. An accelerometer senses orientation of the phone and changes the screen accordingly, allowing the user to easily switch between portrait and landscape mode. A proximity sensor deactivates the display and touch screen when the device is brought near the face during a call. This is done to save battery power and to prevent inadvertent inputs from the user's face and ears. An ambient light sensor adjusts the display brightness which in turn saves battery power.  A gyroscopic sensor to enhance its perception of how it is moved is also inbuilt in the phone. The iPhone 4 also has a digital compass. The iPhone is also equipped with liquid contact indicators which change from white to red in colour when they come in contact with water. These suggest whether water damage has affected the device.

With over 425,000 apps and games available from the App Store, the iPhone is an entertainment module, not only a communication one. In January 2011, Apple has passed 10 billion app downloads with over 50% of them being used by iPhone user, making it one of the most flexible mobile phones in terms of functionality, operations and entertainment.
